Hey gang, Just a quick question. I am in the process of moving some of my all copper loop and I was curious if it was safe to use Oxygen Barrier Pex instead of copper? If not I will just use copper, just thought it would be easier.

Hello plumbers, I'm not sure if I should be contacting a plumber or an HVAC technician for my questions, but I'm really lost here. There's nothing wrong yet, but I want to be prepared just in case something does break so I know what to do. I bought my townhouse in southern California 2 years ago, it was built in 2008. Now as far as I was aware, I thought it as heated using a traditional gas-powered furnace, but I was an idiot and I never really looked into the heating system before I bought th...

Location: Washington State, USA Construction Year: 2006 I am getting around to looking at replacing the old junky mechanical line voltage thermostats in my house that I bought over the summer. None of them seem to actually be thermo-regulating anything very well, they seem more on/off. The heating system is a radiant/hydronic that uses the gas hot water heater along with 6 in-wall radiators throughout the house. Each of them has a King 859M Room Thermostat attached. When any one of the six t...

tl;dr: Pressure is too high, lukewarm water at the tap, and the boiler just keeps rising in temperature. Here's what happened. Ever since I rebuilt my burner assembly, thanks to the help I've gotten here, my hydronic boiler has been working phenomenally. Up until Tuesday night, when everything went to shit. Woke up to a chill in the house amid the freezing weather, and left the electric heaters going as I had to go to work. Turned on the shower, and out came some a muddy mix. The incoming ...

Mar 22, 2018 · Tip#1: Install circulation pumps at the lowest part of the system. This minimizes the chance trapped air will stop pumping action. This circulation pump moves hot water through this hydronic heating system. All hot water heating systems have pumps. Tip#2: Install circulation pumps so the motor is oriented horizontally.

(boiler) and secondary (system) loops –Closely spaced tees or a mixing manifold • Prevents flow in one circuit from interfering with another –Example: As zone valves open, close, or modulate, and as system pumps vary speed, the boiler loop is not impacted. In the simplest hydronic distribution system, all heat emitters are connected into a common loop, or “circuit,” with the heat source. In this arrangement, the water temperature gets progressively lower as it moves from one heat emitter to the next. This decreasing temperature must be accounted for when the heat emitters are selected and sized. A common error is to size the heat emitters based on the average water temperature in the system. With a series circuit, you must size the heat emitters based on water temperature at their specific locations within the piping circuit. If you don’t, you’ll hear complaints about overheated rooms near the beginning of a piping circuit (nearest the heat source) and uncomfortably cool rooms near the end. The main advantage of series circuits is the simple and low-cost installation. However, since water flows through all heat emitters whenever the circulator is operating, you can’t use a valve to regulate the heat output of a given heat emitter. If...

Hello. I drew [this diagram](http://i.imgur.com/s7ZH6gW.jpg) that details my hydronic furnace system. All the heat zones are on the first floor and everything else is in the basement. Zone 2A at the top of the diagram gets heat and zones 1 and 2B I believe have air in them. I've fooled around with the faucets before the pump and been able to get air out but it never seems to get all of it. What do I need to have open/shut to get all the air out? Will it take multiple cycles? The valves are: *...

This is the type of boiler used in nearly all steam locomotives. Greetings. I'm trying to wire up my new Wi-Fi Thermostat (Emerson Sensi) with my fairly old furnace. My old thermostat just had 2 wire (Rh and W) that went to a pump relay in my basement. As far as I can tell, powered entirely off of the battery of the thermostat, I didn't have any connections going into the furnace itself. My heating setup is hydronic heat furnace, which cycles to maintain system water temperature. Zone temperature is controlled via cycling of a pump. Thermostat operates rela...

I'm looking for help in cleaning up the wiring for my heating system. As the pictures show, it's a mess, and I'm planning on re-wring it all this summer. I'm just having a hard time understanding exactly how it's all supposed to be wired. I'm currently in the process of trying to trace out each individual wire, but I don't want to just rewire everything as-is without understanding how the pieces all work. For completeness' sake: I'm located in Iowa. https://imgur.com/lyHH0VQ https://imgur.com...

update: The view is pretty close to an elevation view. I use baseboard heat and no heat on two pipes plus gurgling, dripping, etc., was my indication that there was no heat. Locating the bleeders helped me get hot water to the rest of zone 2. Bleeding the air manually seemed like it should have worked and I discovered today that the issue was related to this thermostat valve. I had had thought everything set up but I was more focused on the ball valves. I noticed they had a lever and I would se...

Hello /r/Plumbing!I read the rules so I *think* I should be OK posting this. Mods (will, no doubt) please let me know if I'm breaking any rules. I recently purchased a 50(ish) year old home and, naturally, it needs some updating. It has an oil-fired boiler with built-in water heating. The primary heating of the home is via hot water baseboard. This is all operational. The boiler, while about 15 years old, is still measuring about 87% efficient and the HWBB registers are in fantastic shape. Be...

I'm concerned that my contractor and his subs have done a poor job installing a new loop into my existing hydronic baseboard heating system. I'm linking to pictures below to try to describe the problem. Our home was recently renovated; we started with a single-story ranch home w/ unfinished basement, we had about 1100 square feet on the main floor. The home is heated by a natural gas boiler in the basement, and hydronic baseboard heaters (on 3/4" copper piping). This copper piping is locat...

This is about installing hydronic radiant floor heating in a slab floor system. While it was done as a new house was being built, in my last house I poured a concrete floor on top of a wood framed floor system and could have put radiant heat in that as well. The system works via pex pipe, a small pump, a water heater, and a thermostat.
