Discussion Starter · #1 · Dec 17, 2008. Finally tracked down my oil leak to the oil cooler, and since I have started running synthetic it is getting worse. I was reading that the 4 orings (2 on each side) and the block-cooler seal can be gotten from a ford dealer. Doesn't look like a bad repair except that I read the coolant must be drained.
The engine manual for my 7.3 refers to fabricating some properly shaped steel plates with ports for testing the oil cooler, so you might go with something like that in reverse. My OEM oil cooler is, as best I can tell, still fine, and I am hoping that it stays that way, but I think the original poster makes an interesting suggestion.
